The WireView Pro GPU

Written by Dario,

With the WireView Pro GPU, Thermal Grizzly Holding GmbH presents an updated and feature-enhanced version of the popular tool for measuring the power consumption of graphics cards. The new features of the WireView Pro GPU include internal and external temperature sensors, as well as sensor pin detection for the 12VHPWR power connector. Both, together with the new acoustic alarm, are designed to protect the graphics card from damage.

The WireView Pro GPU was developed in collaboration with Jon “elmor” Sandström, a renowned hardware R&D engineer, extreme overclocker, and founder of Elmor Labs, to introduce new functionalities. Particularly the issue with the 12VHPWR connector, commonly known within the tech community and used in current NVIDIA graphics cards, was the trigger for the new features of the WireView Pro GPU. To better protect the graphics card from potential damage, the Pro version of the WireView is equipped with sensor pin detection that identifies whether the 12VHPWR power connector is properly plugged into the power supply.

Another new feature is the temperature sensors on the WireView Pro GPU PCB, which measure the temperature at the power connectors. Users can set a temperature threshold via the WireView Pro GPU, which triggers an acoustic alarm when exceeded. Additionally, an alarm can be set to activate when a defined current level is exceeded. The WireView Pro GPU also includes two additional temperature sensors that can be connected to measure, for example, the temperature of the graphics card’s memory or its voltage regulators.

The WireView Pro GPU has been enhanced with new features while retaining the functionalities of the non-Pro version.

Here’s an overview of the new features of the WireView Pro GPU:

  • Power consumption measurement
  • Recording of power consumption
  • New: Temperature sensors at power connectors
  • New: External temperature sensors
  • New: Sensor pin detection
  • New: Alarm function
  • Optimized cable management

The following information can be displayed on the OLED display of the WireView Pro GPU:

  • New: Temperature display of power connectors in degrees Celsius [°C]
  • New: Display of the optional temperature sensors in degrees Celsius [°C]
  • Current power consumption in watts [W], current voltage in volts [V], current current in amperes [A]
  • Minimum and maximum power consumption in watts [W]
  • Average power consumption over the 12VHPWR power cable, averaged over the last 60 seconds [RAVG in W]
  • and total power consumption [E in WH]
